Character progression

How do Coilstones and Nui Tears make your character stronger?

Raeven’s Coilstones give Trait Points. Nui Tears increase maximum HP when brought to a Nui Statue. They serve different progression systems, so collecting one does not substitute for the other.

Coilstones: earn changes to your weapon tree

The official progression overview places Coilstones near powerful bosses. Some bosses are visible in the open world, others are hidden or tied to quests. If you find a Coilstone, expect a combat challenge associated with it.

Use the resulting Trait Points in the Traits menu for the weapon you want to develop. A tougher fight can be a reason to explore elsewhere, spend unallocated points and return with a more suitable kit. This is a progression route, not a promise that every boss can be bypassed by collecting another item.

Nui Tears: bring them to a statue

Look for Nui Tears as you explore, then visit a Nui Statue to increase maximum HP. The first increases take relatively few tears and later increases require more. The developer overview does not provide a complete cost table, so check the requirement displayed in the game before planning the next upgrade.

The November 7 update corrected a Nui’s Tear placement in Fell Keep. That is a location fix, not a published map coordinate or a change to every Tear.

Explore without racing for chests

The developer says discovered chests and similar objects can be opened once per character. Another player opening a chest does not mean you lost your own opportunity. Chests can provide equipment and crafting recipes; they are a separate reward from Coilstones and HP upgrades.
