Why can you not place a garden on your housing plot?

Place a house before trying to place a garden. The Building a Garden tutorial explicitly requires a house on the plot and directs you to Placement Edit Mode. Renting an empty plot is not the same as meeting that prerequisite.

Check the placement sequence

Confirm that the house has actually been placed, not merely crafted or stored in the Bag. Enter Placement Edit Mode, choose the garden item and inspect the placement feedback on your plot.

If the preview is rejected, read the reason before buying another garden. Check the available space and any current limit shown by the interface. Published garden-capacity numbers conflict, so use the live limit instead of assuming a larger plot always has a particular fixed allowance.

Find the garden item, then plan the crop

RaidDex's housing report associates A Farmer's Beginning with an introductory garden reward. Follow the current quest and check what it actually awards; this guide does not promise a specific reward quantity from an old version.

Once the garden is placed, inspect the planting interaction and the seed or seedling you intend to use. Plan around the crop your recipe or objective needs, rather than planting an unrelated item just because it is available.

Keep housing and farming requirements separate

The placement tutorial is dated October 28, before Early Access. Its useful distinction is house first, garden afterward. It does not establish crop growth times, guaranteed harvest yields or a universal daily planting schedule.

Keep track of your own planted crop and the information shown by its current interaction. If you need raw gathering materials instead, use their relevant outdoor resource and tool; owning a garden does not make every material farmable at home.
