An enemy glowing red signals an incoming attack that cannot be blocked in the combat tutorial. Evade it. A different tutorial says to use Heavy Attacks against an enemy's guard. These are two different combat situations, not a chain that guarantees an execution.
Identify which side is attacking
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Enemy glows red before striking | Prepare to evade rather than rely on blocking |
| Enemy is guarding your attacks | Use a suitable Heavy Attack to challenge its guard |
| An ordinary incoming strike | Use the defensive options available to your weapon and situation |
A red enemy warning is not the same as the gray or white targeting marker. Marker colors concern attack range or weapon context.
React to a red attack
Stop extending a long attack sequence when you recognize the warning. Use the evade action shown for your current controls and move out of the threatened space. The extracted tutorial shows Ctrl for its keyboard layout; follow your own binding if it differs.
Do not assume Longsword's timed parry overrides the unblockable warning. Its official profile describes parrying at the moment of impact, but does not grant an exception to every enemy mechanic.
Use Heavy Attacks for the guard problem
Look for a safe opening to use the Heavy Attack associated with your equipped weapon. Breaking a guard is not a promise of a particular damage multiplier, stun duration or finishing input. The tutorial provides none of those values.
The combat tutorial records are dated October 24. The October 29 producer letter discusses later combat adjustments, including Fatal Strike reliability. That named skill adjustment does not turn the separate red-attack tutorial into a player execution guide. Follow the current on-screen combat instructions if they have changed.
