The Warrior's Longsword offers a timing-focused path and a blood-spending path. The official class introduction separates controlling a fight through parries from using Crimson Surge to spend your own HP while recovering health through attacks. Neither description establishes an automatic win or a universal best build.
Learn the defensive opening first
Parry is described as meeting an incoming strike at impact, creating an opening for an immediate counterattack. Treat timing as the action to practice: watch a single opponent's approach, attempt the parry, and check whether the counter opportunity actually appeared before extending your attack sequence.
Do not mistake holding a defensive input for a guarantee that every strike is parried. The useful feedback is the successful deflection and follow-up opportunity. If the timing is unreliable, shorten your own attack sequence so you can observe the next incoming hit.
Match the follow-up to the target
| Named skill | Role in the official introduction |
|---|---|
| Closing Slash | Pulls the struck foe close and connects into another attack |
| Whirlwind Slash | Sweeps through nearby surrounding enemies |
| Bladeburst | Projects a blade wave toward more distant enemies |
| Crimson Surge | Trades the user's HP for enhanced slashes that absorb enemy HP |
Use these differences to identify what is missing from your approach. An enemy outside ordinary sword reach presents a different problem from several enemies surrounding you. That is a reason to inspect the appropriate skill and its trait requirements, rather than repeat the same short-range input at every distance.
When the blood path changes your decisions
Crimson Surge introduces a personal HP cost. Check your current health before choosing an exchange that spends more of it; healing attached to successful attacks is not a promise that it will rescue a missed or interrupted sequence. If you want a less HP-dependent plan, inspect the control/parry route first.
The class profile describes the trade-off, not a full set of current damage percentages or a complete point-by-point allocation. Use the in-game tooltip for the cost and conditions shown on your current patch.
Do not copy an old durability trick
The October 29 launch update says disarming with Parry costs less durability than before. It gives no replacement numerical value. Older demo clips built around weapon durability interactions therefore need that change in mind. Judge the parry by its defensive opening and your actual equipment condition, not by an assumed demo-era break rate.
